Welcome to Year 1!
Welcome to Year 1, it is great to have you all back in school with us. A special ‘welcome back’ to Melody who has returned, and ‘hello’ to Charlie who joins us this year.
We have made a great start so far and are settling in very well with all our new routines. We are working very hard to keep learning whilst keeping ourselves safe at the same time. We sit side by side at our desks, and sometimes on spaces at the carpet, all facing the front. We wash our hands regularly, and sanitise when we move in and out of the room. We have all our own equipment, and only share things when they have been cleaned first.
If you have any worries about anything we are doing in school, please email me at this address:
Useful information for Year 1:
We will listen to your child read as often as we can in class, so please send the books in every day. Reading books will be changed every FRIDAY until restrictions are lifted, then they will be changed twice a week.
Paper homework and folders will not be sent home as yet. In your Reading Record you will find two logins for online learning. Please login to these and try some of the activities they have.
Our P.E days are MONDAY and FRIDAY. Please make sure a kit is in school for these days. We only require a T-Shirt, shorts and pumps. Please make sure long hair is tied back and earrings are removed for school.
Shortly, our fruit will start to arrive and we will able to have it at morning playtime. Unfortunately there will be no toast available at playtime, but you may bring in a snack to eat at afternoon playtime. Something like a piece of fruit, biscuit or packet of crisps will help us get through the afternoon!
Show and Tell:
Unfortunately, we are not allowed to ask children to bring in any items from home this half term, but we can still have show and tell via email. If you would like to send in any photographs of special items, special people or days out please send them to me at:
We will share them in class on a Friday afternoon and print them out to display.
In Year 1 we follow ‘Maths, No Problem’ which is a scheme from Singapore. It helps us solve problems by learning many different methods and skills in mathematics. In this first half term, we cover numbers 0-10 in great detail, which means we know them inside out and back to front! We then move onto number bonds, addition and subtraction.
Children will be allowed to drink from their bottle during the school day. Please send in WATER ONLY in a named bottle. Unfortunately, we cannot refill the bottles once they are empty.
