Welcome to Year 1!
The children have made a brilliant start to the new school year and enjoyed settling to their new classroom. This half term we have lots of new learning to explore and we will also become familiar with the routines of Year 1. In Year 1 our Teaching assistant is Mrs RW who works with our class each morning. We also have Mrs Slater who comes in for the afternoons. Mr Meades covers PPA and teaches Year 1 each thursday afternoon.
You can find information about Year 1 below as well as an overview of some of our learning this half term. If you need any further information or have any questions you can contact me via the office or email: email@example.com
I am really looking forward taking the children on the next step of their journey through school and seeing them shine this year.
Mrs Carr, Class Teacher
Our Learning this Half Term:
We will be busy exploring Weather initially in our English Work. We will be finding out about different types of weather reports, labelling and writing sentences. We will then move on to a unit based on Traditional Tales and will find out more about story writing.
In Year 1 we follow ‘Maths, No Problem’ which is a scheme from Singapore. It helps us solve problems by learning many different methods and skills in mathematics. In this first half term, we cover numbers 0-10 in great detail, which means we know them inside out and back to front! We then move onto number bonds, addition and subtraction.
We will be designing a moving weather chart and exploring different types of moving pictures.
We will be investigating seasons an how these link to weather. We will also take part in seasonal walks and notice changes in the natural environment around school.
