Year 2

Welcome to Class 2 where we work hard, learn lots and have fun every day!

We are a hard-working class who listen to each other, always try our best and never give up. We take pride in being the oldest children in the infants who set a good example for the younger children every day.

On our Class Page you can find lots of useful information about life in Year 2 – what we are learning about, what you will need each day and important dates for the term.

Monday – Reading books are changed

Tuesday – PE

Wednesday – Spelling Test day! New spellings and homework sent home

Thursday – Reading books are changed and PE

Friday – Library Day! We visit the library and change our books.

Every day – the children will need their water bottles, healthy snacks and reading books in school each day.

After talking to our parents it was decided to have both our Maths and English homework printed out and in a Homework Folder. This is blue and will come home each Wednesday with new homework in it. Homework needs to be returned to school on a Monday.

Spellings will also be given out on a Wednesday for the children to learn. Remember they can use their Spelling Frame log-in to practice them at home too! Their spelling test will then be the following Wednesday.

Children should be reading at home every day. Please use their bookmarks to help you with questioning.

Choke the great outdoors

We will be going outside everyday so please make sure you send your child to school dressed appropriately for the weather. A waterproof coat is needed on wet days, warm coats with hats and gloves in winter and sun hats with sun cream during the hotter summer days.

What will we be learning?

Class 2 Subject Timetable

This half term we will be learning…

English – In English we are enjoying Traditional Tales. We have focused particularly on Jack and the Beanstalk and are twisting the tale to write a new original story of our very own. In our non-fiction work we are going to be looking at instructions. We will be following them and then writing our own. Our particular focus on this unit will be on verbs and adverbs.

Maths – We are continuing our work on number and are doing lots on multiplication and division before moving on to Fractions.

History – In History we are learning all about toys from the past. If you have any old toys or remember any favourite games from when you were little we would love to hear about them!

PE – We will be continuing to develop some of our Fundamental Movement Skills and will be looking at some work on sequencing in Gymnastics.

RE – In RE we are thinking all about the Messengers and the Good News that is delivered in the Nativity Story. We are thinking about the Angels and the messages they deliver. We will also be performing our own Nativity Story – Big Bad Ben of Bethlehem!

Computing – We are continuing to use Scratch and are learning all about Computer Games! We are investigating the algorithms to see if we can work out how the scoring works!

DT – Our work in this subject looks at 3D mechanisms and we will be investigating how vehicles with wheels move before making our very own moving vehicles!
