Welcome to Class 2 where we work hard, learn lots and have fun every day!
We are a hard-working class who listen to each other, always try our best and never give up. We take pride in being the oldest children in the infants who set a good example for the younger children every day.
On our Class Page you can find lots of useful information about life in Year 2 – what we are learning about, what you will need each day and important dates for the term.
Monday – Homework returned to school and reading books changed
Tuesday – PE
Wednesday – New homework is sent home and library books are changed
Thursday – Reading book are changed and PE
Every day – the children will need their water bottles, healthy snacks and reading books in school each day.
Please make sure you send your child to school dressed appropriately for the weather. A waterproof coat is needed on wet days, warm coats with hats and gloves in winter and sun hats with sun cream during the hotter summer days.
What will we be learning?
Click on the link below to find out what we will be learning throughout the year
This half term we will be learning…
English – This half term our author focus is Michael Bond and we are going to be reading lots of his Paddington Stories before writing our own Paddington Adventure. We will then move onto looking at letters and will be writing our own from Paddington to Aunt Lucy in Peru before finishing off with our poetry unit on Riddles! Can you guess what we are describing?
Maths – We are continuing to follow the Maths – No Problem scheme of work this year. In the Autumn Term we have spent lots of time focusing on the Number aspect of Maths. Whilst we will still be keeping up with this number work and would appreciate your support with this at home we will be moving onto looking at time, money, word problems, length and mass.
Science – This half term we are learning all about Growth and Survival. We will look at life cycles and the different stages that animals and plants go through as they mature and develop. We will also learn all about what animals and plants need in order to survive and stay healthy.
History – We are continuing with some of our work on Florence Nightingale this half term before moving on to learn all about The Great Fire Of London!
PE – Our PE for this half term is mainly focused around a dance unit entitled ‘Explorers’ where we will be dancing our way through the jungle! We are also going to be continuing with some gymnastic work on sequences involving travels, rolls and balances.
RE – We have a lovely unit this half term entitled ‘Jesus, friend to everyone’ and we will be learning all about how we can be a good friend from the examples Jesus set. We will look at how we should treat others and explore what being a Christian looks like today.
